Castle Acre is a special Conservation village sited on the long-distance Peddar's Way footpath, and is steeped in history. Within a short walk of Tudor Lodgings there are the following:
The ruins of the 11th Century Norman castle built by William De Warrene. The medieval ditch-and-bank town defences extend beyond the castle around Tudor Lodgings. Fortunately it is free to all, and a very short walk away.
See website.
An extensive 12th Century ruined priory, part of which was lived in until only fairly recently. A short walk away and free to English Heritage members.
See website.
Recently changed management (late 2008), has had a revamp. Good pub food, and a good few bitters. A short walk.
See website.
Other useful things in the village:
Please see their website.
A wide variety of second hand books. Ideal for holiday reading!

Newspapers can be bought here.
On the other side of the village there is a children's play area with a little skateboard park.
Dog walking opportunities are plentiful around the village with miles of lovely riverside paths. Please just ask about possible routes.
